Celestial 500 Blue Water Cruiser For Sale - NOT AVAILABLE

Updated: Nov 26

Production of Celestial 48s was discontinued in 2002. The boats have been and continue to be preferred by sailors who want to make long passages and/or world trips, both with their strong hull structure and sail combinations.

SY Semavi was constructed from GRP using sandwich construction and hand lay-up methods approved by Lloyd's Register. The hull of the boat is balsa-cored to the waterline with solid glass reinforcement at the chain plates, rudder shaft and propeller shaft.

The interior, consisting of cupboard doors, panelling, shelves and end strips, is made of glossy teak. The entire interior is solid teak or teak veneer with a teak and holly sole. A vinyl headliner adds a nice finish. The wet floors and rooms are fitted with modern, rounded fibreglass modules and maintenance-free fittings. She proved to be a strong boat with a sought-after layout, excellent storage and good sailing characteristics and they have been seen cruising the world. They are absolutely a contender for a couple or family looking for a blue water passage-maker.

She is 14.70 meters (50 feet) in length. She has a beam of 4,12 meters and a draft of 1.83 meters with a fully encapsulated, elongated fin keel consisting of two solid lead castings. The underbody has very full and round bilges which means there is lower form stability.

The sail area is about 91 meters on a Kenyon, keel-stepped double spreader main mast which is relatively tall at 17 meters above the waterline. She also has a large mizzen sail on a deck-stepped, single-spreader spar. The mainsheet was originally led to the forward end of the cockpit much like on an aft cockpit layout. Dacron Elvstrom's main sail (2019), Spare main sail, Genoa sail and spare genoa sail, and Mizan sail are all in good condition.

Under power, she is very manoeuvrable due to her large skeg-hung rudder. With a 3-blade fixed she will turn in her length using a back-and-fill technique. The boat will power up to 8 knots depending on sea conditions and is pretty controllable.

The cockpit is compact but will seat 6 for cocktails. It is well laid out to easily add a complete bimini enclosure, making this a great covered patio, protected from the elements. The companionway has a bridge deck and is offset a bit to port with engine gauges below and within sight of the helmsman. The sole of the cockpit is removable and is directly over the engine in case a future repower is necessary. Visibility from the helm is excellent in all directions.

One of the highlights of this boat is the layout which is a modern fore and aft cabin design featuring 1.90 meters of headroom in the saloon, galley and aft stateroom. A traditional 2-meter-long V-berth is forward. Both heads, forward and aft, are a fibreglass pan with teak trim. The aft head has a dedicated separate shower with a seat. The owner’s suite aft on the boat, there is a king-sized centerline bunk which allows sleeping fore and aft and a variety of drawers, lockers and shelves. A large lazarette behind this bunk spans the entire transom and is accessible via two deck openings. This space provides good access to the steering quadrant and the emergency tiller attached to the deck.

The saloon has a centerline drop-leaf table with a built-in eight-bottle wine rack and will seat 4 comfortably or 6 in a pinch. An L-shaped settee is on port with a straight settee on starboard. The U-shaped galley is to starboard and the food storage space is good. There is a gimbaled stove and a top-loading refrigerator in the kitchen. The sinks are on the centerline and close to the companionway steps. The companionway has a built-in locker on each step. The forward-facing nav station is on port, across from a small wet locker and just at the head of the passageway that provides access via a door to the large, crawl-in engine room.

This dedicated, well-insulated and well-lit, machinery space allows access to all sides of the Yanmar 77 HP diesel engine. It has only 50 working hours on it after refitted fully on 23 February 2023. It also has been serviced in May 2024. Starboard of the engine there is a cabinet and room for the additional water tank. This is a very large engine room by sailboat standards, and it’s great to have dedicated access without disrupting the living spaces.

SY Semavi is for sale from a second owner. The boat was commissioned in 1990 and used by the previous owner Mrs Monica Westpal until 1998. The current owner bought the boat in 1998. Considering that the current owner used the boat for more than 25 years, we can accept him as the first owner. The boat’s sail area has been fixed in the south Aegean and Mediterranean for 25 years. She is moored in Marmaris Yacht Marina, Marmaris, Mugla, Turkey.

Appointments are required to see the boat. Please make an appointment at least 3 days before your future visit. The boat demonstrations will be held during the working hours of the day except Sundays. Do not hesitate to contact us for further requests and/or questions.
