1985 Moody 419 CC Blue Water Cruiser For Sale - SALE PENDING

Updated: Nov 26

The Moody 419’s are designed by Bill Dixon and manufactured by Moody Yachts, a company with a rich history in yacht building that dates back to 1827. Moody Yachts (A. H. Moody & Sons) is originally founded in Swanwick, England, by shipbuilder James Moody, the company has evolved significantly over the years.

The hull of SY Night Bird is made of fibreglass (GRP), which is known for its durability and low maintenance requirements during the sailing season. The underwater profile features a fin keel, constructed from cast iron. This combination provides a robust structure suitable for various sailing conditions.

The interior, consisting of cupboard doors, panelling, shelves and end strips, is made of glossy teak. The entire interior is solid teak or teak veneer with a teak and holly sole. A vinyl headliner adds a nice finish but creates problems with access to deck hardware. The wet floors and rooms are fitted with modern, rounded fibreglass modules and maintenance-free fittings. She proved to be a strong boat with a sought-after layout, excellent storage and good sailing characteristics and they have been seen cruising the world. They are absolutely a contender for a couple or family looking for a blue water passage-maker.

The sail area is about 69M2 and she has a deck-stepped double spreader main mast. Under power, she is very manoeuvrable due to her large skeg-hung rudder. With a 3-blade fixed she will turn in her length using a back-and-fill technique. The boat will power up to 8 knots max speed depending on sea conditions and is pretty controllable.

The cockpit is compact but will seat 4 for cocktails. It is well laid out to easily add a complete bimini enclosure, making this a great covered patio, protected from the elements. Visibility from the helm is excellent in all directions.

SY Night Bird features a well-thought-out layout designed for comfort and functionality, making it suitable for both short trips and long voyages. The forward cabin contains a double V-berth which offers ample storage with overhead cabinets and under-mattress compartments. Includes a forward separate head with a marine toilet, washbasin, and shower. The guest cabin is located to port opposite the forward head which features two single bunks, a hanging locker, and a dressing table.

The main saloon is equipped with two L-shaped contoured settees including a large dining table with folding leaves that allow for socializing or dining. Storage is abundant behind the settees and in built-in cupboards. The galley is positioned aft to port, separated from the saloon by a semi-bulkhead. Features include a U-shaped design, a gimballed two-burner stove, a grill, a top-opening deep freeze, a fridge, double stainless steel sinks and various storage options. The Navigation Area is located to starboard adjacent to the companionway. Contains a large chart table and instrument panels for navigation.

Aft Cabin is accessible from the saloon via a passageway. Includes a double bed, an L-shaped settee, a chest of drawers, and hanging lockers. An ensuite head compartment features a vanity, sink, shower, and marine toilet. This layout emphasizes space utilization while ensuring comfort for all aboard, making the Moody 419 an excellent choice for cruising enthusiasts.

The engine locker is designed to provide easy access to the engine and mechanical systems. It is located in the cockpit area, this locker allows for maintenance and inspection of the engine without needing to enter the cabin. The locker is spacious, allowing access to the starboard side of the engine and most mechanical systems, which is crucial for routine maintenance and repairs. In addition to housing the engine, the locker may also provide additional storage for tools and spare parts necessary for sailing and maintenance tasks.

This thoughtful design enhances both functionality and accessibility, making it easier for sailors to manage their vessel's engine and related systems. She has an original Thornycroft diesel engine which produces 57 HP. Although the tachometer reads 521 operating hours, the owner of the boat states that the engine has approximately 1000 working hours on it after the rebuild. The engine has been serviced in May 2024.

SY Nightbird is for sale from a second owner. The boat was commissioned in 1987 and used by the previous owner until 2008. The current owner bought the boat in 2009 in Gocek, Turkey. Considering that the current owner used the boat for more than 15 years, we can accept him as the first owner. For the last fifteen years, boat owners have used the boat in the Göcek bays during the summer season and parked her on land at the Marmaris yacht marina for six months during the winter season.

The standing rigging was renewed by the previous owner in 2000. There is an inspection report for standing rigging in 2021. Movement rigging was renewed by the current owner in 2024.

The boat has two Collmar air condition 9500 BTU units and a portable Honda 2 KW generator. In addition, there are lots of spare parts, mooring lines, a complete set of cutlery, folding bicycles etc. on board, too.

Appointments are required to see the boat. Please make an appointment at least 3 days before your future visit. The boat demonstrations will be held during the working hours of the day except Sundays. Do not hesitate to contact us for further requests and/or questions.
