SURVEY TRANSACTIONS
Before purchasing a yacht, conducting a thorough inspection is a comprehensive task that requires professional expertise.
When buying a yacht, you need to pay attention to many details. During the evaluation phase of the yacht's technical condition, we work with experienced specialists. All elements, including the integrity of the boat, the functionality of the equipment, the technical condition of the engine, electrical systems, and sea experiences, are assessed by accredited surveyors who are experts in their field. At the end of the yacht survey, a complete survey report is prepared that includes a full description of the yacht's current technical condition.
Besides, our company; through its YBDSA, RYA, and IIMS-approved surveyors, conducts
on-site tonnage measurement surveys for British-flagged yachts under the Red Ensign
with a hull length (Lh) of up to 24 meters. The Red Ensign Group flags represent those
registered with the British Register of Ships and linked to the United Kingdom, and
they are governed by the maritime authorities of the UK and its overseas territories.
These flags include Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, the British Virgin Islands (BVI),
and the Cayman Islands.
For yachts being registered under the British flag for the first time, a tonnage
measurement survey is required according to MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency)
regulations. The IIMS (International Institute of Marine Surveying) is approved by
the MCA as both a Certifying Authority and a Tonnage Authority for vessels
under 24 meters. IIMS-approved Tonnage Measurement Surveyors are authorized
to conduct tonnage measurements for the United Kingdom and Red Ensign Group flag
states.
A tonnage certificate calculates a vessel's volume in terms of tonnage based on measurement criteria determined by the MCA and IMO (International Maritime Organization). This document serves as the basis for vessel registration, taxes, and harbour fees.
The measurement process is as follows:
Preliminary Preparation: Before the measurement day, digital copies of the license, ship construction certificate, and engine plate photos are sent to the surveyor.
Measurement Process: The measurement is carried out on-site if the boat is on land, or alongside a dock if it is in the water24. The measurement takes approximately 1-2 hours.
Result: An application is made to the MCA on the same day. The approved digital certificate, generally approved within 2-3 days, is delivered via email.
There are 116 Registration/Mooring Registry Ports under the United Kingdom (England) flag, and London is the most popular port of registry.
