1982 Beneteau First 38 For Sale - SOLD
Updated: Aug 14, 2024
Designed by Jean Berret and introduced in 1982 the First 38 was one of the earliest sailboats to boast the popular three-stateroom layout now found on so many mass-produced monohulls. It is attractive and solidly built for an inexpensive mass-produced boat, an excellent value for anyone looking for a strong, fast cruising boat that can also be successfully raced.
Like all Beneteau, the First 38 had a relatively short production run, from 1982 to 1985, but during that time over 200 hulls were built, several of which were exported to both coasts of North America.
Sy Iceberk was owned by the current owner in 2019. Lazy bag, Layzjack, Bimini, Sprayhood, and Bilge pump were renewed on the same date. The electronic control unit of the refrigerator was also renewed. Brand new holding tank (200 L.) installed right under the bed in the fore cabin. A brand new Mitsubishi Craftsman 42 hp diesel engine was installed in 2021. The engine working hour was 187 on the date of 09 March 2024.
Climbing down Iceberk’s tight, safe companionway, the saloon is framed by the cutaway bulkhead. The interior design has not dated, like so many of the Bénéteau First 38’s contemporaries. The smartly upholstered headlining is fitted with wood veneer strips, giving the space a sense of perspective.
The U-shaped settee, to port, converts to a double berth with the drop-leaf table. To starboard there is a single settee berth and a small pilot berth. The forward cabin has a V-berth with shelving on each side and a hanging locker. It is adequately lit by a fore hatch. The forward heads, to port, has a shower, a rather dated-looking padded vinyl deck head liner and a plastic red sink. Opposite the heads is a good-sized hanging locker.
The forward-facing nav station, to the starboard, has a huge chart table, which is well-fiddled and has a deep space beneath for almanacs and charts. The nav station has a big chart table and plenty of space for almanacs, pilot books and electronics.
There is a lot of room to mount radar, VHF radio, chart plotter and other electronics, and plenty of space for navigation tools: pencils, rubbers, dividers and binoculars. It also has shelving for a CD player. The galley is well designed, with ample worktop space, double stainless steel sinks a top-loading fridge and a gimballed, two-burner stove with an oven and a grill. There is plenty of cupboard storage space.
There is a seamanlike second head, ingeniously installed on the centreline between both aft cabins, behind the companionway stairs and in front of the engine compartment. But this feature was cancelled by the previous owner.
The boat is on the water right now. The current owner has planned a regular engine service. Please note that; SY Iceberk needs a new antifouling paint before the season. The boat demonstrations will be held during the working hours of the week except Sundays. Appointments are needed to see the boat. Please make an appointment at least three days before your future visit.
