She is Dutch. Elling E3 Trawler - SOLD

Updated: Feb 15, 2022

Our boat; was designed by Neptune Marine, which has more than 50 years of experience in the Netherlands, in accordance with modern understanding and CE Ocean Class A criteria. She was built in the Netherlands in 2001. Manufactured using high quality Kevlar fiber in the hull shell. The boat can withstand four meters high waves and eight force of wheather conditions. Even if she capsize in a storm, it can straighten itself again like rescue boats. She offers silent and vibration-free cruising even at half displacement speed of 16 knots.

As a result of the combination of elegance and quality with the concept of "Fast Trawler"; while the boat owner and guests are offered a luxury yacht experience . It’s reported that very low fuel consumption has been achieved at trawler speeds.

The boat is one of the distinguished and modern examples of Dutch yacht technology and craftsmanship. For example; you have chance to lower the mast at the flick of a switch and pass bridges with a 3.45 meter clearance whether exploring inland waterways. Elling yachts are known to be the safest yachts around, the whole idea of Elling was born to create a motor yacht that cannot capsize. Ellings are self righting like life boats. They are considered to be safest in their class in any type of rough seas. The Reliable engine, the hull shape makes this is long cruising motor yacht.

Elling E3 is designed to be a real sea going boat that tackles the real condition of the sea. These are not boats that look flashy but have no capability to battle when the tides get rough.

It is possible to enter the boat through the doors of the port and / or starboard, as well as by making use of the five steps on the swimming platform at the stern of the boat. When you enter through the door from the cockpit, you wil see the pilot house lounge with panoramic view.

Pilot house lounge’s punematic roof can be opened easily. Five steps lead down to a large saloon with a dining table and TV unit from this upper lounge. When we move towards the bow of the boat in the saloon, it is noticeable that there is a V-shaped cabin for two people at the starboard bow side and an electric toilet with indoor shower head at the port side. As soon as the saloon descends, there is a single-person cabin with toilet on the starboard side extending towards the stern of the boat. In order to reach the master cabin of the boat, you have to pass the gallery kitchen which was in the direction of the stern of the boat,

The boat was purchased by the second owner in 2005 in Florida / USA. It has been used privately since 2005. The boat owner is an USA citizen. He used the boat in USA(Atlantic Ocean) between the years 2005 and 2014. The boat was brought to Turkey by ship in 2015. She was used throughout the Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea between the years 2015-2020. She was registered to the Turkish flag in 2017. The 370 hp Cummins diesel engine, which reaches a speed of 8 knots at 1600 rpm, has a fuel consumption of 11 liters per hour

The boat was berthed at the Marmaris Yacht Marina by the boat owner for pre-season maintenances. The main engine, generator and bottom maintenance of the boat are planned. An appointment is required to see the boat. Feel free to make an appointment to see the boat except on Sundays.

Owner’s Comments

I sail from Ft. Lauderdale to Chesapeake Bay during my Xmas brake (winter months) than I had a lot of day or weekend sailing in the bay with my E3. I did not experienced any vibration with my boat. I sail with three different Ellings, again I did not experience any vibration. All four Ellings had equipped with Cummins engines.

Trawlers which are designed to exceed hull speed like Elling are using semi displacement hulls. Bow part of the hull has round displacement shape, and aft has a flat shape. At higher speeds Hull will plain on top of flat aft and this is how semi displacement hulls gain speed above the hull speed with less horse power. Advantage of semi displacement hull is you will enjoy both worlds; low fuel consumption at displacement and plaining speeds. You can find hull speed for the trawlers easily. Square root of water line length multiply with 1.34 factor. my boat has 36' water line, that means hull speed is 8 nm. Nordhaven is full displacement hull, so same lenght hull will not go faster than 8 nm. Elling's semi displacement hulls, based on lenght and horse power can reach up to 18 nm speed with one engine.

Every trawler with displacement or semi displacement hull will rock on the beamy seas. That is why some install stabilizers. Only sail boats won't rock at beamy seas, thanks to their heavy ballast and sails which pushes boat to one side. As a return sail boats has heel issues, at beamy seas you should get used to walk or move at 30 degrees side ways.

Trawlers has keels(with out ballast) so they will behave much better at beamy seas than V shape hulls( high speed power boats).

If you got caught by storm and beamy seas right question to ask to yourself is this "can you handle the heavy seas?" I am sure Elling will. Plus she will give you "escaping from the storm" option with speedy hull set up. Another important issue is windage. Elling's sideways windage is far less than the competition it will effected less at the heavy seas, that is one of the reason they can certified as Ocean going boats. If I am not mistaken she will heel only 10 degrees under 65 nm side winds.

Again right question to ask is " which boat is more seaworthy and comfortable during storm?"I believe Elling is one of the best at her class.
