Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 42 DS - Not available

Updated: Feb 3, 2023

The Sun Odyssey 42DS boasts a modern, fluid design, a rare, timeless elegance, and the comfortable interior layout expected of a sailboat built for cruising, all while delivering a superior performance. The powerful hull impresses, not simply for its excellent performance at sea, but also for its ease of handling due to its reinforced hull design and expertly designed sail plan.

Let yourself be seduced by the space and light. An abundance of natural light and fresh air fill the saloon, with its raised deckhouse and large portholes. Refreshing and relaxing, interior living spaces are comfortable at all times, whether day or night.

For those not familiar with the Jeanneau name, it is one of if not the most prolific European boat builders enjoying a sizable share in the recreational boating market all over the globe. The Jeanneau Ship Yard was started in 1957 by Henri Jeanneau and built its first fiberglass sailboat boat in 1964. In 1970 Jeanneau introduced two models that essentially marked the start of Jeanneau as a volume production boat company.

In 1995 Jeanneau joined Groupe Beneteau and followed quickly with the opening of Jeanneau North America in 1996. The Jeanneau shipyard in France is reportedly the largest recreational production boat facility in the world. Contrary to some misconceptions, both Beneteau and Jeanneau still maintain independent management, design, and construction teams.

From stem to stern, the 42 DS has lots of smart little features. The forward cabin boasts a well-thought-out and roomy hanging locker, with generous storage shelves included. Tanks are stashed under the V-berth. The laminated-wood floor is both handsome and durable. The Scheiber electrical panel graphically displays voltage and fuel and water levels. There’s an abundance of handholds, as there should be in such a beamy boat, and they’re stylish as well. The port and starboard settees will also work as excellent sea berths. In the aft owner’s stateroom, the 2 meters-wide bed (“berth” doesn’t do it justice) is something you won’t see on many 42-foot sailboats. By pulling a couple of pins at its base, the companionway-ladder module can be removed for excellent engine access (though it might be a bit of a challenge stashing the stairs, especially under way). The engine starter can be serviced via a watertight hatch in the central head.

Steering the boat from one of the two twin wheels was fun and satisfying. There’s a wealth of Harken hardware employed in the deck layout.

We know all of the previous owners. The boat has no charter history. The boat owned by current owner in 2019 with a survey report. The report is available. She is for sale from the fourth owner with Turkish Flag. Vat paid in Turkey. The batteries, solar panels(450W), Victron smart regulator, Garmin fish finder and a new brand dingy are added to inventory by the owner. The bottom paint applied on May 2022. Anots renewed. The boat is on the water and ready for sailing. A new rollbar and davids installed in this year.

Appointments needed to see the boat. The boat is lying at Marmaris Yacht Marina. The boat demonstrations will be organized during business hours of the week except Sundays. Feel free to keep in touch with us for further questions.
